Step 1 - Unpacking your
kit.
In this example we show the
entry-level single camera
GeoVision kit which is ideal
for home or a small business
which requires between 1 and
4 cameras.
A typical kit includes a
GeoVision PCI DVR card,
additional backplane
adapters (if purchased),
digital cameras, mounting
brackets, cables, power
supply units and the
GeoVision software CD. |
|
|
Step 2 - Installing the
GeoVision card.
To install the GeoVision
card, turn off your PC at
the mains socket and remove
the outer casing. Find a
free PCI slot and insert the
GeoVision card.
There is a connector cable
to plug-in to the reset
switch on the motherboard.
This is used by the WatchDog
facility in the GeoVision
software to automatically
reboot your PC if it crashes
or hangs due to any hardware
fault. |
|
|
Step 3 - Connecting the
cameras.
GeoVision kits are supplied
with either cables or
wireless
transmitter/receiver
modules. If you are
intending to site your
cameras within 5m to 40m
from you PC, and the cable
run is relatively
straighforward around a room
or on the outside of a
house, the cable option is
probably best.
If you want to avoid having
unsightly cables everywhere
you can purchase wireless
transmitter/receiver kits to
connect your cameras to the
PC.
|
|
|
Step 4 - Mounting the
cameras.
All of our cameras are
supplied with mounting
brackets. You just fix the
bracket with the screws and
raw plug supplied to a
suitable location on a wall
or ceiling. If you are
mounting the camera
externally make sure you
protect any cable joins from
the weather by covering them
with a waterproof case or
joining the cables inside
the building. |
|
|
Step 5 - Where to install
cameras.
We offer a range of
different digital cameras
for different requirements.
The bullet camera
illustrated opposite can
used internally or
externally and is completely
weatherproof. Different
lenses are available for
these cameras, depending on
the field of view you
require. |
|
|
Step 6 - Installing the
software.
Insert the GeoVision CD into
your CD drive and choose the
main installation program.
Follow the prompts to
configure your cameras and
setup the recording and
monitoring options. |

the system

the "Webcam" folder & paste
them in the following location: C:/INETPUB/wwwroot.
4. From the "control panel"
select "administrative tools"
then "internet information services"
On the left hand side, expand your "local computer".
Next expand the folder "Websites".
Right click on "Default Website"
and select "properties". Under
website identification, in the dropdown box for the IP address,
select the IP of the system.
This will be your static IP address or the internal IP address
assigned to the system by the windows XP network if on a
network.
5. REBOOT
6. If on a network, you must list the IP address
of the DVR in the DMZ of the router and/or forward the following

a static IP address. You can view cameras from as many as
16 different DVR's simply be putting the IP address for
the DVR of the camera you wish to view. If you use an internal
address you will only be able to view the cameras internally.
To view cameras externally you must use an external IP address.
ATTN: Make sure that the DVR software is running
or there will be no video transmitted to the webpage! The
webpage will display weather the DVR software itself is
running or not. This system is now technically a server.
Q: When I try to view

• Be sure that ports are not being blocked by your
router, firewall software or anti virus software.

folder on the DVR CD and pasted them in the "wwwroot"
folder in C:/
• Verify that the proper IP address is being used
in IIS for the system
Q:
From the "control panel" / "administrative
tools" / "internet information services" I
Expand "local computer" & "websites".
When I right click on "Default Website" and select
"browse" my web page does not display in the window.
What is wrong?
A:
It is more than likely that the initial installation of
the IIS windows component was not installed properly by
windows. Follow these steps. to uninstall the component
and reinstall.
1. From the "control
panel", select "add remove
programs", then select "windows
components"
2. UN-CHECK "Internet Information

Follow the steps in question 5.
Q:
What is the pin layout for the I/O and relays and PTZ interface
card?
A:
Q: The system keeps
freezing up, what is causing this?
A:
This issue is generally attributed to the
VGA card. We recommend a 64 mb GeForce2 MX 200/400, from
nVidia, or better
Q: What are the backup
devices supported by the system?
A:
Data backup devices include CD-RWs, DVD-RAMs,
DVD-RWs, DATs, etc., any device that Windows recognizes
as a drive, and you can also backup on a network drive.
The unit of the data is 1 minute, and can only be viewed
through the supplied Backupviewer. Data backup is also possible
on the Search program, where it can be saved in AVI format,
making it conveniently viewable through the Windows Media
Player(by enabling "View-Caption" from the menu,
you can also conform information data).
Q: Windows 98 uses the
FAT32 file system, while Windows 2000/XP also supports the
NTFS file system. Which file system should I use?
A:
Each file system has advantages and disadvantages to them,
but we recommend the FAT32 method over the NTFS system.
Using the NTFS system as your database can result in small
data glitches.
Q: What is the default
username & password for the system I just purchased?
A:
Default Username: admin Password: 1111
Q: I installed the card
and hooked up the watchdog wire to the reset pins on the motherboard
but now the system won't boot up. What is wrong?
A:
The watchdog wire is directional. Rotate the watchdog wire
180 degrees on the card pins or reset pins on the motherboard.
Q: My monitor is only
displaying a piece of the software, some of it is off of the
screen, how do I fix this?
A:
DVS DVR, DVS-Net, and DVS-Web were all designed in a 1024x768
environment. Setting the system to a lower quality can result
in screens that are cut-off, so be sure to set your screen
to 1024x768 before using your software.
Q: What are the precautions
when recording sound?
A:
With Windows 98 or 2000, Direct X 8.0 or better must be
installed. Windows XP is supplied with Direct X 8.0.
Soundcard configurations and usable microphones differ depending
on how many channels you use. Be sure to check your settings.
| # OF RECORDING CHANNELS |
# OF SOUND-CARDS |
SOUND-CARD CONNECTION METHOD |
USABLE MIC. |
| 1 CHANNEL |
1 |
MIC. INPUT |
ORDINARY OR AMPLIFIED MIC. |
| 2 CHANNELS |
1 |
LINE OR EXTERNAL INPUT |
AMPLIFIED MIC. |
| 4 CHANNELS |
2 |
LINE OR EXTERNAL INPUT |
AMPLIFIED MIC. |
Q: What can be done
about dynamic IP?
A:
Currently dynamic IP systems are more popular than fixed
IP systems, including many of the ADSL and Cable modem systems,
meaning that the IP address will change frequently.
DVS has the function of e-mailing the current IP address
whenever the system starts, to the user designated e-mail
address. You can use this address to log-on to the DVS DVR
system.
Q: Miscellaneous precautions
when installing your system.
A:
1. Make sure that the DVR Board driver
is correctly installed.
(Control Panels-System-Device Manager)
2. Make sure that the Database (Volume) settings
are correct.
3. Be sure to choose the correct NTSC, PAL when
installing your program.
4. Check the cables connection on the DVR board.
5. Check the connection on the cameras.
6. Make sure the camera functions properly.
7. When possible, avoid using software that resides
in the RAM. Especially, vaccines can be
potential problems.
8. Turn off screen savers when using the program
(Control Panel-Display-Screen saver)
9. Turn off energy savers when using the program
(Control Panel-Display-Power)
Q: How do I listen to
the audio recordings? |
